Much of my inspiration comes from my childhood spent at my grandparent’s home in Lithuania.
My grandfather was a carpenter and fine craftsman. He build furniture, made beautiful interior details and carved alters for churches. His designs were graceful and flowing with smooth lines and intricate details. He used stencils and patterns of his own design. Perfectly precise and beautifully crafted, they are some of my greatest treasures today. I spent hours watching him in his workshop wiping sweat from his brow; learning what it means to harness creativity and inspiration and make it into something worthwhile.
My grandmother’s pride and joy has always been her garden. Beautifully rich in color, its seasons dictated the rhythm of our days. Rising and setting with plantings and harvest, my grandmother was the nurturer. Understanding exactly what each living being in her care needed to thrive and flourish. My roots are in that garden, my habits, rituals and traditions started there.
It’s a simple joy to be in the moment with nature. When I am in that moment I feel a sense of stability, the promise of it’s constant renewal as the seasons come and go. I feel a sense of abundance from it’s rich colors, textures and patterns. I feel at home.
My works reflect those beautiful experiences, lessons and values which I have been given and have become a part of me. With each piece of artwork, small or large, that goes out into the world, whether it’s a print, a postcard or blanket, I hope to share those gifts. I hope that they bring that feeling of effortless joy into your homes and into your lives. I hope they make you feel warmth, solidity and abundance. I hope that they remind you that nature is always there for you when you need it.
